Ampersand Claybord – 1×1 Inch Panels, 24 Pack, 1/8 Inch Depth

Ampersand’s Museum Series Claybord is a professional painting panel made with a true kaolin clay ground, providing a smooth and absorbent painting surface that draws inspiration from the clay-gesso panels used by Renaissance artists. This ultra-refined ground allows for crisp detail, clean colour, and exceptional control, making it suitable for fine artwork, mixed media, and experimental techniques. Unlike other surfaces, Claybord accommodates both additive and subtractive approaches, allowing artists to etch or scratch details and refine areas using oil-free steel wool or fine sandpaper. The Claybord supports a wide range of media including acrylics, inks, alcohol inks, gouache, egg tempera, watercolour, graphite, and more. Its archival surface is also ideal for mounting photographs, art prints, and other paper artwork, making it a versatile option for artists. Every panel is built on Ampersand’s warp-resistant Hardbord™ core, the most stable wood substrate available, and sealed with Archiva-Seal™, protecting against Support-Induced Discoloration (SID). This 1/8″ thick Claybord panel is designed for professional and detailed work, supporting complex mixed media techniques. Additionally, Claybord is available in various depths and profiles, including cradled options suitable for elegant display. Crafted in the USA using FSC-certified materials, this product promises both quality and sustainability.
