Chilli Scotch Bonnet Seeds – Perennial Hot Pepper Variety

Chilli Scotch Bonnet seeds are known for producing one of the hottest chillies, typically measuring between 2.5-4cm long and 2.5-3cm wide. They mature from a lovely pale green to bright red and are characterised by their strong aroma. A short bushy plant, Scotch Bonnets grow to about 50cm tall and are perfect for container gardening. These seeds should be sown indoors in a greenhouse from early February to April for the best results, as they require warmth and a long growing season to yield properly by late August or September. If sown outside, it is recommended to do so in warmer southern areas from early April, ensuring they still receive adequate heat. The ideal germination temperature is between 27°C-32°C, although they can germinate at temperatures above 21°C with variable success. Using a loam-based compost for good drainage is advisable. The seeds can be sown 5mm deep in trays, and once true leaves develop, they should be carefully pricked out and moved to larger pots. Support can be provided by holding the plant label under the root system while lifting the true leaves. For optimal results, seeds can be started in a thermostatically-controlled propagator or with the aid of a heated tray or mat.
