Product Details

Ampersand’s Museum Series Claybord is a premium painting panel featuring a true kaolin clay ground, creating a smooth and absorbent surface reminiscent of the clay-gesso panels used by Renaissance artists. This unique ground offers crisp detail and clean colour, making it suitable for fine artwork, mixed media, and experimental techniques. With its dual capabilities, Claybord accommodates both additive and subtractive techniques, allowing artists to etch, scratch, and refine details using specialised tools or oil-free steel wool.
Constructed on Ampersand’s warp-resistant Hardbord™ core, this panel ensures stability and durability. The archival surface is sealed with Archiva-Seal™, protecting against Support-Induced Discoloration (SID). Claybord is versatile enough to support various media, including alcohol inks, gouache, egg tempera, and collage. It also allows for the mounting of photographs and other art prints, making it a multifunctional choice for artists.
Available in a flat profile of 1/8 inches, Claybord can also be found in cradled profiles of different depths, accommodating diverse display options. Each panel is handcrafted in the USA using FSC-certified materials, ensuring quality and sustainability.
